Anita Skelin Horvat, University of Zagreb

Anita Skelin Horvat acquired her graduate degree in general linguistics and phonetics at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Science, University of Zagreb, in 1999. After graduation she worked at the SUVAG Polyclinics in Zagreb as an audiotherapist and at language centres INlingua and Litterata as a lecturer of Croatian as a foreign language. From 2003/2004 she was a teaching assistant at the Institute of Linguistics, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in Zagreb. She acquired her doctoral degree in December 2009 at the Postgraduate Scientific Study of Linguistics at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in Zagreb, scientific area humanities, scientific field general linguistics, with the topic Croatian slang as marker of identity of the young. After that she worked as a senior assistant and scientific associate, and acquired scientific title assistant professor in 2013, scientific area humanities, scientific field philology. Since 2013 she has been the head of the Institute of Linguistics. She has taught the following courses since 2008: Sociolinguistics, Culture and Language, Contact linguistics and Languages and Cultures and the Identities of the young at different Faculty departments.

So far she has participated in several scientific projects: as a scientific novice in the projects Neologisms – problems of theory and application and Neologism in Croatian and European context, both run by Dr Vesna Muhvić-Dimanovski, financed by the Ministry of Science, Education and Sports of the Republic of Croatia, as an associate in the international scientific project Languages in a Network of European Excellence (LINEE) as part of FP6 programme financed by the European Union, as well as an associate in the bilateral scientific project Construction of National Identity in Slovene and Croatian Tourist Discourse run in cooperation with the University of Koper. Her field of interest are topics in sociolinguistics, contact linguistics, research in language and identity and discourse analysis.

She is a member of the Croatian Applied Linguistics Society. She was elected President of Croatian Philological Association in September 2014.
